Oregon Coast Day 1

After the conference we took off for a few days down the Oregon coast.

Our first stop was L.L. "Stub" Stewart State park in Oregon.  It was a huge State park with multiple campgrounds, cabins, miles of hiking, biking and horse riding trails, a discovery center a playground and a day use picnic area.

The discovery center was small but packed with lots to explore.

Elk Jaw

Mountain Lion Skull

Turtle Skeleton.  This one was fascinating!

Bat skeleton and Lizard skeleton.

Bat skeleton up close.  This was moms favorite.  The wing bones were smaller than toothpicks.  Amazing!

Not what you want to see before you take off on your hike.

Centipede that squirted a powerful stinky smell on Kylie.

Four leaf clover found by Clara!

Train playground for the little girls to run off energy

This picture doesn't do this viewpoint justice.  It was a breathtaking view of a valley and we had the area almost to ourselves.

  1. You always find great places to go. That looked like a lot of fun. How long was the trail? Did you find out what kind of centipede Kylie found?

  2. Craig found this park. It was just by accident. It might sound silly but we pray before we head out each day for God to take us places. Ever since we started doing that we have found the neatest out of the way places by "accident". We never researched more about the centipede. Kylie was pretty mad at it. :)

Only Craig and the older kids went on the hike so that they could go fast. I think they were gone about an hour. We hadn't planned ahead so we didn't even have water or anything. We want to come back here and stay in a cabin next year and explore the park more. Lots to do and see. They are still building it, cutting trails and laying roads. Oregon charges a fee to use their parks instead of putting the whole burden on the tax payer. Clean, flush toilets, friendly park rangers, nice roads, plenty of parking at trailheads. Beautiful cabins. WA just started doing this. Hoping our parks will improve now too! That is the way it should be. The people who use the parks should carry more of the burden. If someone really wants to use a park they can come up with $5.

Anyway, sorry about all the politics lately. I usually try to leave politics off the blog. Guess I am in a political mood this week. :)

  3. That is AWESOME that you pray before heading out for the day. God wants us to trust Him for EVERYTHING, even our recreation, if we will just go to Him.

Don't worry about the politics. I totally understand. There is SO much lately that has been rubbing me the wrong way. But I am with you, the people that use anything should have to foot the bill, don't put it off on people who will never use it.

It sounds like a really fun place. We enjoy hiking and going to museums too.
