Growing fast!

You may have a lazy cat if....

We got an assortment of rare breed chickens this year and we sure are
enjoying finding out what we have as they get older
This pretty lady is a Blue Laced Wyondotte.

We got a few of these and are hoping one turns out to be a rooster so
we can hatch some more out next year.

Mushroom Surprise

In December my mom got me a mushroom growing kit.  I was super excited because most people at our house love mushrooms.  It was going to be part food and part homeschool project.

Well we thought we followed all of the directions.  But one month went by.  Then a second month went by and nothing seemed to happen.  So we figured we had killed it somehow and we put it under a desk.  Then we forgot about it.....

While rummaging around under the desk yesterday, nearly 3 months after we started it, Stephanie found this!

These were the biggest mushrooms I had ever seen!

Unfortunately they were moldy in parts so we couldn't eat them....

But being homeschoolers we pulled out the microscope and started naming the parts of the mushrooms and looking at them in detail.  Turned into a pretty interesting, impromptu, school lesson.

In memory

Remembering my dad (Grandpa Jerry)
on what would  have been his 70th birthday.

God saw that he was getting tired,
A cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around him
and whispered, "Come with Me."
With tearful eyes, we watched him suffer,
And saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly,
We could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands did cease
Yes our hearts our broken
But our dad is now at peace.

I miss you dad and I wish you could have known all of my children.

Quick Spring Update

Spring is officially here!  Winter didn't give up without a fight, it layered our yard with snow twice in the last week and I saw ice on the animals water as late as yesterday.   But today we finally have sun and it is warm enough for little ones to be outside!

Crocuses come up every year under the cedar trees.
A promise that sunshine and warm weather is just around the corner.
