33 days until spring

Tonight I sat and watched Kylie's crayons make neat, deliberate strokes across the white paper.  Green, purple, blue and yellow.  A tree with blossoms, a grassy green hill, bright cheerful colors.  I scoffed as she scrolled "Spring is here" on the top of the paper.  But her enthusiasm eventually wore off on me and I found myself spending the rest of the evening planning the garden, flipping through seed catalogs and making drawings of this years upgrade for the chicken coop.

I don't know what spring means in other houses but here in our homeschool it means we will do more science than math.  We will have more hands on learning.  We will have harder, more physical work.  We will spend more time working together.  We will sleep better.  Eat healthier.  Play hard.  Laugh more.

Thank you Kylie for reminding me that Spring is coming even now, when it seems so cold!

Thank you Lord for giving us Winter as a time of rest and Spring as a time of re-birth.   Thank you for your perfect plan for life, seasons and cycles.  And thank you for blessing me with children I can teach and who also remind me each day that we are never done learning.

Did you know:  You can start some veggie plants indoors now.  Even here in the Northwest.  Good choices are celery, onions, leeks and most of the cabbage family.

Some proud kids showing of their efforts last year!

  1. My girls found flowers in the backyard yesterday and came running in with them all excited that "Spring is here!". I had to remind them, even though it is sunny, we actually have another month of winter left! :)
